Born in Flesselles in 1909, Max Lejeune was mayor of Abbeville from 1947 to 1989.

Already elected deputy in 1936, and therefore the youngest member of parliament in France, he remained in office until 1977 with an interruption during the Second World War as a prisoner of war, then a senator from 1977 to 1995, when he died in Abbeville.

He was:

  • President for 43 years of the General Council,
President in 1978 of the Regional Council,
  • Secretary of State under different ministries
  • Minister of Veterans Affairs in 1946 at the Cabinet Léon Bl
  • Minister of the Sahara from 1957 to 1959

He was the reconstructor of the city, of which he knew the history and leaving to the maximum the vestiges of its past
