Considered one of the greatest Abbevillian patriots, Enguerrand Ringois refused to take the oath of fidelity to the King of England, Edward III became Count of Ponthieu. The latter, therefore, ordered him to be thrown from the cliffs of Dover.
In 1887, the sculptor Emmanuel Fontaine realized a bas-relief representing this scene of heroism, applied on the turret of the Treasury at the foot of the Belfry.
